SPEAKER: Tom Farley,Community Relations  Coordinator                                                              Rosecrance of Wisconsin

Growing up Farley: A Story of Addiction, Love, and Forgiveness

Brief Description: In this talk, Tom chronicles his lifelong journey with his brother, the late actor Chris Farley. Touching on lessons learned from Chris and his struggles with addiction. Tom, begins by speaking about his brother’s addiction and the effects it had on his family, and specifically, himself. Tom discusses his own journey in recovery and his work as an advocate for those with substance use disorders. Whether in personal life or the workplace, Tom covers the concept of being a first responder and what signs to look for to identify someone in crisis or in isolation.  Sometimes in organizations we are so accustomed to speaking in terms of “teams”.  Tom likes to talk about creating the “ensemble” before forming the team (ie: the best teams are ones that formed the ensemble first).  Using humor, the family gift, Tom approaches these difficult topics with compassion, generosity, and aplomb.

    Bio:

Tom Farley is the Community Relations Coordinator responsible for arranging community activities and developing business relationships in southern Wisconsin. He manages strategic relationships with local and regional referral sources and works in the community to raise awareness about addiction and mental health. Tom has a marketing degree from Georgetown University. Prior to joining Rosecrance, he ran the Chris Farley Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to substance use prevention. He also served on the Dane County Human Services Board. In addition, Tom is a nationally known advocate for prevention, treatment, and recovery.
