At the Table Together: HR Meets Local Government
Join Rockford Area SHRM for a timely and impactful conversation bringing HR professionals and local government leaders together to explore collaboration, workforce challenges, and community growth.
This special panel discussion will feature Mayor Tom McNamara and other government officials, offering attendees the opportunity to hear directly from those shaping policy and economic development at the local and state levels. Participants will gain valuable insights into how public policy intersects with workplace issues, talent development, and organizational decision‑making—while also engaging in meaningful dialogue with public‑sector leaders.
PRESENTERS:
Mayor Tom McNamara

Tom McNamara is the 41st Mayor of Rockford, Illinois, having first taken office on May 1, 2017. He is the son of former Mayor John McNamara, who served from 1981 to 1989. Prior to his mayoral tenure, Tom represented Rockford’s east and west sides, as well as downtown, as the 3rd Ward Alderman. Mayor McNamara holds a Bachelor of Science in sociology and criminology and a master’s degree in nonprofit administration, both from John Carroll University in Cleveland. He and his wife, Sarah, reside in the Churchill’s Grove neighborhood with their two children. Mayor McNamara serves on various boards, including the Illinois Municipal League Board of Directors, the Rockford Area Economic Development Council, and the Workforce Connection Board. In April 2021, he was re-elected unopposed for a second term, and in April 2025, he secured a third term with 78% of the vote.
