How does Medical Marijuana affect the workplace?

Attorneys Allison Mecher and Steve Murdock from Inman & Fitzgibbons, Ltd., Chicago, IL will educate us on this emerging topic.

Illinois’ Medical Cannabis Pilot Program – Where It Is and Where You Should Expect It to Grow.

Effective January 1, 2014, Illinois joined several other states legalizing the medicinal use of cannabis with one of the strictest laws yet created. As more and more states hop on the microbus, where has Illinois’ program gone over these past few years, what has changed, and what do we expect we to see in the future?  We will provide an overview of Illinois’ Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program, including how it works and how employers should handle employees active in the program, and we will provide an update on trends we are seeing throughout the nation, including workers’ compensation coverage for medicinal marijuana, as a guide to what we can expect to see in Illinois.  At the end, we will provide some suggestions on what employers should have done by now and what they should do for the future as we look ahead to the anticipated next phase – legalization of recreational cannabis.
